Originally named West Bloomingdale, Butler a borough in New Jersey, was not as densely populated as it is now. Around 1920 Butler was home to a little more than 2,000; and now there is almost 7,500 residents in this rustic borough!
Richard Butler took ownership of the Hard Rubber Company erected in Butler at the time, thus getting the name Butler. This company would later merge with The Hard Rubber Company to form the American Hard Rubber Company in 1898. A variety of organizations and community groups are shared between Kinnelon, Bloomingdale and Butler like the Little League Teams and the volunteer EMS.
The Aaron Decker Schools serves students from grades K-4 while children in grades 5-8 attend the Richard Butler School. Students from Butler and Bloomingdale attend Butler High School. There is also a Catholic school within the borough limits. St. Anthony of Padua School operates under the auspices or patronage of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Paterson.
New Jersey Transit buses run in and out of Butler on the 194 route to the Port Authority Bus Terminal n Manhattan; and runs on the 75 route to Newark.
